A Walk in the Park
02:25
|

I promised myself I’d take a walk in the park,
Hear the trees sing harmonies and
Listen to their handshake bark.
All the lovers, walking dogs,
Love on a leash and self involved.
I’ll lay in the grass,
Count the lessons as they pass.
Daydream, unresolved it knocks me down
And spends me around.
All the words I sold to lovers
Poetry and songs evolve
I wake clothed in leaves and
Begging you not to leave
You were never here
I must’ve dreamed you leaving in fear.
I went walking down the avenue
Spend all my time thinking about the truth
Someone’s got to do it.
Somebody has to prove it.
I had to lose it
To find it
Then I turned right round
To deny it.

Dear Director
03:01
|
|||
You can meet me on the highway in a hospital gown
While I’m waiting on the muses to set me down.
I have pills in both hands and a drink in my gut,
Praying Dear Director, please say cut.
I found a lover and a fighter and a dog in my bones,
And they’re all pulling at the framework of my family home.
I had food on the table, wish I was able to
Eat myself silly like a child in a fable.
Got a figure for a father and a mother like a mouse
And no one can tell them how to act in their house.
If they had a notion of love in motion, maybe
They could choose to try on devotion.
I’m a child in the wild with a hickory stick,
And I’m drawing out my family tree when it hits me;
There are children among us, strangers who love us,
And no one’s gonna teach me what it is that unites us.
Is it so bad to be your father’s son?
Is it damnable to be the only one who made it out alive,
Who made it out alright.
Who made it out alive,
And doing just fine.
